Ok. That was absolutelly perfect, i like your style and the plot is just perfect. I wish you could have written another chapter, just to really end the story, but i still like it this way, it's your story after all. Fantastic job again |

Nice chapter, i like how things seem to be developing for the two of them and especially the part where hermione says she misses her friend is really sweet. |

Wow, that was weird. I like the idea of the plot, it's the first fic i read in which buckbeak appears as an important character and i like that. |

I can't believe it, but I've somehow of late allowed myself to relive the HP glory days, when hope was still alive and Harry and Hermione where characters of substance. Hence the trip through this fic. I've heard it oft recommended and it didn't disappoint.
I've read Restoring Hope was keenly impressed with the quality of the work there. I like how your stories are mature and well crafted narratives that stand out in comparison to the vast majority of the work all over fandom which tends to be shallow and absurdly indulgent. There is an elegance in your delivery that is rare and I enjoyed reading it. I appreciate the adherence to canon and the smooth insertion of this after the conclusion of OotP (though it seems that canon itself was only superficially faithful).
And now that we've seen the full course of canon and the route JKR's plan for it has taken, it makes the uncommon, quality fan fiction authors all the greater in how they were able to start with the same published materials and lift them to a more significant, more respectable place than canon bothered to explore.
We lost a number of quality authors in the presence of the last two books and I see that you have written some more despite that. I commend your efforts. That's good to see as few writers (including myself) have chosen not to do so any more. I do hope you're crafting your own original stories as the world would benefit from reading them. If you are only half as skilled at creating original work as you are skilled at executing with another's characters and universe, you'll undoubtedly be successful.
Best wishes. |

I'm fairly certain that the number of times I've read this now is in the dozens and it just never gets old. It's always a treat to read, and particularly a nice respite after reading a bunch of new post-hogwarts stories that have me longing for something familiar.
Thanks again for sharing it. |

This was a splendid and touching little story. It really captured a version of Hermione I wish we had seen it canon. |

Wow, poor Harry! Poor Buckbeak! Ah Hermoine is growing up a bit in this fic. It's nice to see. Nice original idea, greatly enjoyed it. |

Nicely done! I think this piece humanized Harry's reactions to the Ministry in a way that canon failed to do. Thaks for this! |

"Well, if he can tell everyone about the prophecy, the least I can do is come clean about my scar. "I, um… I have a few things to tell you, too. You and them, I should say. We can do it all at once, if you like…" She smiled encouragingly. "We'll deal with it, Harry," she assured him."We will?" he asked, and there was actually a ghost of a smile on his lips. It came to Hermione that, while she'd only meant they'd talk to their friends, in the long run she could have meant so much more. And he understood that. "'Course we will," she replied, and for once found her next words perfectly appropriate. "We're Gryffindors, aren't we?"
Wonderful ending.
BRAVO! |
Author Feedback: Grazi! I don't know who first said it, but I love the line: Hermione was put in Gryffindor because she's even braver than she is smart. And that's saying a lot.
Enjoy yourself. See y'all in July! -- Bruce |

Now this is the type of book 6 I was expecting. Who am I kidding this is book 6 in my book! Actually dealing with these types of issues is what I enjoyed about this fic. Dealing with a very injured Buckbeak, an injured Hermione and shell shocked Harry. You've captured it very well.
"Without warning he started walking away quickly, towards the trees… Hermione looked up to see him trying to leave, and felt exasperation explode inside her. I don't have time for this! Before she knew what she was doing, she'd marched in front of Buckbeak, planted herself in his path and looked him sternly in the eye – without bowing first. She immediately realized her mistake… but having committed herself, she didn't dare back down. The best she could do was keep her eyes fixed on his eyes, and not on his talons. To her amazed relief, the hippogriff bowed to her first. Only then did she notice that her chest ached again, though not only from her wound – she'd forgotten to breathe. She exhaled slowly and returned Buckbeak's bow… and couldn't help mocking herself, just a bit, for her moment of recklessness."
I love how you write Hermione. Gutsy move as well on her part.
"She slipped the jar of salve into her knapsack and brought out a bottle of potion. Quickly she uncorked it, took a healthy swallow, and corked it again. She had the bottle back in the knapsack before Harry could notice. There was no need for him to know she was still in pain… if she hadn't told Ron, she certainly wouldn't tell Harry. And right now, the last thing she wanted to do was remind Harry of her injuries… and the circumstances surrounding them."
Again its the little things but this is something that book 6 was missing. References just like this one. It also ties into the other books but also deals with the fact that they can be hurt. And that you have to think before you act. Everything has a consequence.
I hope you keep on writing. You've brought some great elements together for this fic. |
Author Feedback: And thank you yet again! I hope to keep on writing, but it will have to depend on what we get in Book 7 (and whether it sours me forever on the World of Harry Potter). But yes, in my stories, I try to make clear that actions have consequences. It's dealing with consequences, in fact, that gives us a story.
I'm very, very glad you like my Hermione. I like the girl, I really do. |
